Le Lab de 5ilience
First edition

Le Lab

The 5ilience reed quintet is opening the doors to its brand-new playground for composers: The Lab.

Here, there’s no aesthetic dress code or musical filter — ideas are welcome in all their diversity: from pop grooves to graphic notation, from electroacoustic sounds to contemporary or jazz writing: bring it!

Above all, we want The Lab to be a space where participants can dream, tinker, experiment, and share directly with a professional ensemble — all in a welcoming, accessible, and slightly laid-back atmosphere.

For this first edition, we’re looking for 8 composers interested in writing a piece averaging 5 minutes for our reed quintet: oboe, saxophone, bassoon, bass clarinet and clarinet. The first edition of the Lab will conclude with a concert where we will perform the premieres of the 8 works.

An information session about the process will follow the announcement of the selected participants, chosen by 5ilience. While it’s encouraged, it is not required that participants finish the experience with a completed piece — out of respect for each individual’s creative process.

With this initiative, we hope to nurture our creative communities by encouraging the meeting of diverse musical styles around the reed quintet.

For this first edition, we require the in-person presence of participants during the two days of the sketch readings as well as for the final concert.
