About
Who are we?
5ilience is a brand-new ensemble based in Montreal that brings together five emerging artists passionate about chamber music. Our quintet, composed of an oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bass clarinet, and bassoon, establishes itself as the first reed quintet in Quebec. By combining the timbral specificities of the instruments in this formation, we have developed a sound palette that is both unique and versatile.
Following in the footsteps of the very first reed quintet, the Calefax ensemble, founded in 1985, 5ilience is dedicated to expanding the existing repertoire for reed quintet by developing new works from emerging and established composers, and is committed to showcasing the vast possibilities of its formation by exploring various musical styles.
Our ensemble made its debut in November 2022 during the concert “If I Could Anchor Myself,” presented at Sala Rossa in Montreal, programming works centered around our relationship with time and creating new pieces. Since then, 5ilience has performed at the Lanaudière Festival and La Virée Classique of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, and was featured by Code D’accès with its immersive concert Flore Temporelle, supported by Le Vivier. 5ilience has created works by several composers, including Simon Bourget, Romain Camiolo, Erik DeLuca, and Thomas Gauthier-Lang.
Our events, aimed at communities seeking new discoveries, strive to create unforgettable experiences through our innovative programming, the quality of our collaborations, and the freshness, detail, and precision of our performance.
